Summary

Activated lymphocytes produce endogenously vitamin D. We hypothesize that provitamin D enhances the efficacy of specific immunotherapy (SIT) and can promote long term tolerance. A clinical trial has been initiated and we want to follow by immune monitoring the cellular and humoral changes upon provitamin-SIT. At the mechanistic level we plan to ablate the cell specific vitamin D production during the sensitization, elicitation and treatment phase in mice.
