Summary

We will develop and test preclinically novel therapeutic strategies to selectively target proinflammatory Th cells in chronic rheumatic inflammation. We have identified miR‑148a, miR-182 and the transcription factors hopx and twist1 as critical regulators of expansion, function and survival of pathogenic Th cells. To target them therapeutically, we will use small lipophilic oligonucleotides for systemic application and their selective knock down in pathogenic versus protective Th cells.
