Summary

Long-lived memory plasma cells refractory to immunosuppression, irradiation and B cell depletion therapy have become a promising candidate target for treating antibody-mediated diseases. Therefore, we will develop new strategies (including silencing of immunoproteasome with siRNA and targeting plasma cell niche) of an effective and selective targeting of plasma cells that we will study in vitro and in autoimmune mouse models. In refractory autoimmune diseases, we will study the relevance of plasma cell depletion with the proteasome inhibitor bortezomib and the prevention of the regeneration of autoreactive plasma cells by targeting their precursors.
